![]() Background noise has never been an issue. ![]() They are so cheap, we could easily put them in every room. I know you decided against the Echo Dots but that’s exactly what we did. Today, I'd use the same solutions, but as mentioned by others, would also look into the improved fall detection products & solutions that are just becoming available. Avoid complex systems, too many ways to fail, especially with older folks involved. Be sure to test regularly, especially wireless and handheld items. The local 911 center & PD really appreciated the fact we could verify his status with the cameras, but PD said they'd respond and use best judgement with or without verification.įor emergency & life safety, you can't beat simple & redundant. After talking with the local FD & EMT's, also installed a KnoxBox on the front door so first responders could enter without breaking down the door. Eventually this remote assistance become more important to his daily well being as much as the call 911 emergency button, which he never used.įWIW our local 911 center & PD were fine with a call 911 unit, quite willing to respond, preferred thse over central station or third party call centers for fastest response. My sister then started using the IP cameras & their talk back mic to be sure he was eating & taking his meds & assist him. Not long after, also added a couple standalone Panasonic web IP cameras so we could check on him quickly if there was an alert or he didn't answer phone, etc. We then added extra wireless buttons on the wall and shower door, etc. Had to dig a bit, eventually found a dialer unit that would call a second number as well as 911 directly. Only a few vendors seem to sell extra buttons. After talking to a helpful age-at-home tech at the VA, tried using a generic landline connected call 911 unit with wireless pendant we got free from the VA (also free thru local aging office), worked OK but eventually changed to a different model as we couldn't easliy buy repair/add on parts. Got him to wear a wrist strap button made by Linear connected to panic button input on his monitored alarm system for couple years, but eventually he'd always forget to put the button back on his wrist after washing hands or showering. Not an HA solution, but for general info: Went thru this with my aging Dad a whlle back. (If you would like your sub listed please contact the mods!)
